This February 21, 2012 handout image provided by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory shows an image of the Sun as the Moon move off the limb at 1427UTC (0947EST). Although this brief obstruction cut into the USD $850 million mission's observing time, the SDO team tried to make use of the opportunity, project scientist Dean Pesnell said in a blog posting. During its transit, the moon blocked the probe's view of an active region on the sun.

This NASA image released February 22, 2012 shows what NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has detected in the solid form of buckyballs in space for the first time. To form a solid particle, the buckyballs must stack together, as illustrated in this artist's concept showing the very beginnings of the process. The buckyball particles were spotted around a small, hot star -- a member of a pair of stars, called XX Ophiuchi, located 6,500 light-years from Earth.
